Toulouse, France — Airbus forecasts a cumulative global need for about 2.44 million additional aviation workers by 2045.

The manufacturer’s 14 October forecast projects demand for 730,000 maintenance technicians, 660,000 pilots and 1.05 million cabin crew.

A training challenge across the industry

These are long-term workforce requirements, rather than current vacancies or an Airbus hiring programme. For training providers and employers, the figures outline the scale of preparation anticipated across three different professions.

Airbus projects a US$17 billion training-services market by 2045, growing at an annual rate of 3.1%.

The forecast covers passenger jets with more than 100 seats and freighters with payload capacity above ten tonnes, regardless of manufacturer.

Asia leads projected services growth

Airbus expects the wider aviation-services market to exceed US$420 billion by 2045. It identifies Asia-Pacific, China and South Asia together as the fastest-growing region for services.

The projections describe Airbus’s expectations for the next two decades; they do not establish a current labour shortage or guarantee future employment.
