Japan Airlines plans to reopen its refurbished domestic lounges and dedicated security checkpoint in the north wing of Haneda Airport's Terminal 1 on 8 October. Passengers using the facilities will encounter a new premium-lounge name and spaces organised for different types of visit.
The airline announced the changes on 6 October. The reopening remains a scheduled event as of this edition.
More seating and a new name
The former Diamond Premier Lounge becomes the First Class Lounge, with approximately 1.4 times its previous seating. JAL describes dining, relaxation and work areas, while the Sakura Lounge includes a children's area.
JAL also plans food that varies by time of day. Its Japanese-language announcement places the refurbishment within the airline's evolving domestic service.
A practical transition for passengers and staff
The name change creates an immediate information task for airport teams: directing passengers consistently and explaining where their access applies. A new facility name should not be treated as evidence that a traveller's eligibility has changed.
For someone working between flights, the layout will need to make a suitable seat and the route back to the departure area easy to identify. For families, the children's area will be most useful if parents can supervise without obstructing other guests.
Those are questions for the occupied lounge. An announcement and images can describe the intention, but cannot establish how the space will handle a busy departure period.
Passengers travelling around the reopening should consult JAL's current lounge and airport guidance for access and directions. Confirmation that the facilities have opened is the next milestone; the planned date should not be read as confirmation that the work is already complete.
