Swissport has opened a cargo-handling operation in the French sector of EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse, marking its return to the French market. The company announced the launch of Swissport Cargo Services France on 30 September.

The warehouse provides 3,000 square metres of working space. A French customs zone occupies 1,000 square metres; the other 2,000 square metres accommodate international handling, including assembling and dismantling airline freight pallets.

Airline cargo handling is the initial focus. The French business operates as a separate entity but will work with Swissport’s established Basel cargo team, bringing an existing local operation into the expansion.

Management also identified possible longer-term opportunities in French ground handling and airport hospitality. Those comments describe ambitions beyond the cargo launch, rather than additional services already announced as operating.

Swissport says the new facility joins a global network of more than 120 cargo centres, which together handle over five million tonnes of freight annually.
